Portable equipment allows the team to perform nearly all dental procedures, including fillings, composites, root canals, and extractions. Oral hygiene instruction to those treated and their family members is a vital part of every AYUDA Humanitarian trip. Each patient not only leaves with their own toothbrush, but with the information to take personal responsibility for their own oral health.
Additionally, the volunteer dental and medical professionals not only treat, but demonstrate and teach techniques of their profession to other dental and medical providers in the international communities they visit.

As part of each humanitarian trip, volunteers typically organize various service projects to help the communities they visit in additional ways. The service projects vary by need, but might involve providing needed clothing, school supplies, hygiene kits, blankets, sports equipment for youth teams and schools and other items. Some service projects have also involved building houses, dental clinics and medical clinics.
